Nelly- a Boston in Los Angeles: Los Angeles Dog Photography

I try not to be biased, but everyone knows I love Boston Terriers. So I was very excited to photograph Nelly the BT recently in Santa Monica for one of my first Los Angeles dog photography sessions.
Like some Boston Terriers, Nelly pretended to be the boss of the house when I first walked in. But we became fast friends when she realized that I understood her complicated and flatulent breed, and in no time she scampered up to me and dropped her favorite Frisbee chew toy on my feet. It was more like a mashed-up, gnawed on plastic plate- but clearly it was her most prized possession. It’s always flattering when dogs trust me enough to show me their favorite toys, and I of course made sure to include the beloved, mangled Frisbee in a few of our portraits since it always seemed to be nearby.
The bright Los Angeles light makes for wonderfully warm open shade, so we walked around the yards and I simply watched Nelly and her people relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. It was wonderful. As you can see, Nelly is a very beloved creature, and these portraits were an inspiring way to open the doors to my new Los Angeles dog photography studio.
