I returned to Gumps (San Francisco's infamous luxury homegoods store) last weekend for 2 full days of polaroid dog portraits. Once again, the 100+ available sessions were booked up in less than a day, and our Instant Doggie Photobooth was buzzing with dogs and instant film. Guests get a real look into my analog process at these events, because we pull polaroids right in front of their very eyes. They  watch us time the exposure, and then peel away their perfect instant portrait from it's pack of photographic chemistry. It is the true opposite of a digital snapshot that often you'll see being offered at pet stores over the holidays. Though I work very quickly with each dog that comes through the Instant Doggie Photobooth, I won't begin photographing until the dog and I have bonded, until they are comfortable in front of the lens. I wait for the perfect moment, focus accurately, expose well, and create an instant analog portrait that has been hand-crafted from start to finish. This is why people cherish the polaroid dog portraits they receive from me- because there are no other animal photographers offering such a magical experience. Here is a little video showing some before and after portraits:
