FINE ART DOG PHOTOGRAPHY, PRIVATE COMMISSIONS
2007- 2022

I was America's leading fine art dog photographer for over a decade, with work in more than 150 private collections throughout the United States. My dog portraiture has been exhibited in galleries across the country, and studied the deeply healing power of the human/animal bond— telling a contemporary story of companionship and love that truly honors the role dogs play in our modern lives. I was lucky enough to have studios in San Francisco, Los Angeles and the Berkshires and worked with clients across the country.

It was incredibly important to me to deliver work that was not only original, but long-lasting; there’s no such thing as an unimportant detail when it comes to production which is why I produced all my photographs by hand in the studio. After I hand-cut each custom mat, prints were signed and numbered in a limited edition of two–the first print went to my client, the second went to the studio. I never offered digital files, and all photographs were printed on the highest quality fiber paper and came with a Certificate of Authenticity. These were one-of-a-kind pieces that became cherished heirlooms, and you still can’t find this level of care anywhere in the industry to this day.

"I’ve always been fascinated with documenting the human/animal bond, and seeing that bond in action time and time again is deeply moving to me. The trust and affection our dogs give us—and the comfort that comes from that—is unlike anything else in the human experience. It’s an honor and a pleasure for me to witness how dogs enrich our lives, and I take pride in celebrating each and every one of my subjects in a truly genuine and personal way.

Even when a photograph shows only your dog, it is a reflection of the relationship you share. It’s my goal to accurately, beautifully capture a chapter in the story of your long loving relationship. My approach to photography is rooted in the principles of authenticity, quality and honesty. I approach my work as a storyteller, not just as a photographer, so I can see and share all that’s wrapped up between you and your best friend without saying a single word. Our animals are so much a part of us; getting to the heart of that with an image is everything." - Jesse Freidin
