BOSTON CANNING//BAY AREA'S BEST DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

I just arrived in my home town of Boston, ready for a long month of East Coast work. But before the madness begins (teaching 3 photography seminars, gallery visits, dog portrait clients, fancy collaborations, and more), I spent some time with family iphone photographer

Today we went to the Copley Square Famer’s Market- the Summer colors were beautiful. Unlike California, during the Summer things here are bright green, lush, and completely in bloom. We filled our bags with ripe peaches, yellow plum and heirloom tomatoes, fresh herbs, flowers for my sister, handmade mozzarella, and sausage from a local farm.

We chopped and cooked and pretty soon we had canned a cupboard’s worth of sweet peach jam and fresh yellow tomato sauce. Ok. I admit, I pretty much just watched. But I’m a good sampler and wow was everything bright and delicious.

SUMMERTIME CIRCUS MACHINE//BAY AREA'S BEST DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

I'm currently planning my Instant Doggie Photo Booth which I'll be introducing to the East Coast this summer. Exciting! I'll be at the Wellfleet Flea Market every weekend in August 2011 (for those of  you synching up your iCal right now, that's 8/6-8/7, 8/13-8/14, 8/20-8/21, 8/27-8/28). This is the flea market of all flea markets on Cape Cod. Rows and rows of amazing antiques (my house is filled with billions of old cameras from my summer thrifting habit), hand-made artisan crafty things, local products, amazing tools you never knew you needed, snacks (love snacks!), and lots and lot of sunshine. And in the evening everyone clears out and the parking lot becomes the legendary Wellfleet Drive-In where you can sit on the roof of your car, eat more snacks, and watch some awesome movies. It doesn't get much better than this, folks.

I'm hiring a canopy company to create a custom circus-striped pop-up tent for me, with roll-down walls. Since it will be so bright out, the inside of the tent will be a virtual enormous soft box (a nerdy photo term for big light-bulb). Genius! Kind of like this:

I've also found some great old Polaroid folios, which I'll customize with my logo. Dogs come into the tent, sit for a beautiful and unique instant portrait, and walk away with a small keepsake. It's going to be so much fun.

You won't be able to miss me (just look for the red and white stripes!!). So, if you have plans to be on Cape Cod, MA this summer - either for my 5-day Intro To Fine Art Dog Photography seminar (info here: Castle Hill Center for the Arts), or simply to vacation and soak up the sun- be sure to come visit me on the weekends at the Wellfleet Flea Market.

SUMMER CLASS IN CAPE COD//BAY AREA'S BEST DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

The Summer 2011 schedule is finally out for the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill- an amazing arts center that has been around for 40 years, attracting some of the country's most prestigious professional artists in a variety of mediums. I couldn't be more excited to spend a week at Castle Hill teaching my "Intro to Fine Art Dog Photography" course. We'll be utilizing class room time and discussion, workshopping images via daily critiques, discussing the magic of an emotional portrait, and getting out into the field. For any of you who have never had the pleasure of spending time on Cape Cod, Massachusetts- it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. There is a light on Cape Cod that cannot be found anywhere else, and textures and patterns that make any artist feel constantly inspired and moved to create. For this reason, my summer course is going to be a very special experience. Here's a little information about the class. I hope you can join me. Registration is very limited (10 students only), so I'd definately suggest you sign up soon.

DATES: August 8-12, 2011

TIME: Mon-Fri, 1-4pm

COST: $380

You can learn more about the center, my class, and how to register here: TRURO CENTER FOR THE ARTS AT CASTLE HILL

Although this is not dog related, here is one of my favorite Summer Cape Cod images. During the Summers I like to wade along the beaches, knee-deep, carrying at least three cameras with me, photographing all the old row boats drifting close to shore. It doesn't get much better than this:

I MISS SUMMER // FINE ART DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

I miss summer. I miss blue skies and happy hot dogs and swimming holes and hikes and perfect Polaroid/Holga weather. Don't you? To encourage a little mind-slipping this dreary afternoon, here are some of my favorite images from last summer's expedition (read: vacation) to The Other Place, in Boonville. It was my first real vacation as an adult, and I honestly did not want to leave. It was magic. It was beautiful. It was warm and breezy and I had my camera up to my face the entire time.

Oh, and the dogs loved it, too.
