SEMINAR WRAP-UP//BAY AREA'S BEST DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

My first summer seminar is wrapping up, and (ofcourse) I couldn't be more proud of my students. Each one of them has created an entirely new portfolio of dog portraiture, learned from their peers, and seriously grown as artists. In the past 4 days we've covered camera basics, photography 101, dog handling 101, and some pretty advanced creative concepts. When I'm teaching, I want to be a mirror for my students. I want to show them where they are, and where they can get to. All with a seamless balance of support, encouragement, and taking each student to task. dog photography class

My "Intro to Fine Art Dog Photography" 5-day seminar dealt a lot with Style- an incredibly important aspect of any artist's career. If you don't have a unique style, you cannot leverage yourself as an artist. It was exciting to see my students tap into their particular styles, learn how to articulate them with words, and then with images.

Here are a few fun "behind the scenes" shots of my students hard at work...

Students took turns bringing their dogs to class each day, but Pancake was a special guest for our "Field Day." Nepotism really gets you everywhere these days. He was a great model, and at the end of our shoot he took the liberty to run around like a crazy-person in the marsh muck up to his elbows. It was endearing. And very messy. But I've always said that at the end of a session you should always encourage dog's to take a victory lap. Just, not in the mud.

A huge congratulations to all my Castle Hill students for bringing so much creativity, focus, and joy to our seminar. Can't wait to see you all in the photo-universe!

SUMMER CLASS IN CAPE COD//BAY AREA'S BEST DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

The Summer 2011 schedule is finally out for the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill- an amazing arts center that has been around for 40 years, attracting some of the country's most prestigious professional artists in a variety of mediums. I couldn't be more excited to spend a week at Castle Hill teaching my "Intro to Fine Art Dog Photography" course. We'll be utilizing class room time and discussion, workshopping images via daily critiques, discussing the magic of an emotional portrait, and getting out into the field. For any of you who have never had the pleasure of spending time on Cape Cod, Massachusetts- it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. There is a light on Cape Cod that cannot be found anywhere else, and textures and patterns that make any artist feel constantly inspired and moved to create. For this reason, my summer course is going to be a very special experience. Here's a little information about the class. I hope you can join me. Registration is very limited (10 students only), so I'd definately suggest you sign up soon.

DATES: August 8-12, 2011

TIME: Mon-Fri, 1-4pm

COST: $380

You can learn more about the center, my class, and how to register here: TRURO CENTER FOR THE ARTS AT CASTLE HILL

Although this is not dog related, here is one of my favorite Summer Cape Cod images. During the Summers I like to wade along the beaches, knee-deep, carrying at least three cameras with me, photographing all the old row boats drifting close to shore. It doesn't get much better than this:
