THE FLAT BRUTUS PROJECT//FINE ART DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

Sometimes it's hard being an only child- you get bored, nobody understands you, there's never anyone to play with. It's a rough life. Pancake, being the spoiled only child he is, has been asking me for a brother every day for the past few months. "Dad, I'm soooooooooo bored. This is boring! We go to work and you do stuff and all I get to do is fart on people and sleep. Booooooooooring!". So, being the good dad that I am, I recently granted Pancake his wish. The stork delivered a very unique, and 2-dimensional, dog brother in flat 'standard mail' package. His name was Flat Brutus, and he visited us for a few weeks- traveling with me from San Francisco, to Los Angeles, to Boston, Cape Cod, and New York. Here is our story: First, Pancake and Flat Brutus had some serious catching up to do. P: "Hi, I'm Pancake. Are you my new brother?"  FB: "....."   P: "Um, why aren't you moving? You're really skinny. No one gives you treats? I get treats all the time."   FB: "......"   P: "Whatever, you're flat. That's cool."   FB: "......"

Then Pancake took Flat Brutus to one of his favorite spots in Cape Cod:   P: "We've got a pretty sick view from up on this hill, Brutus."    FB: "...."

Then we all went to visit Boogie- one of our favorite Boston Terriers on the planet!

Boogie's mom is the infamous Lili Chin- mastermind behind Doggie Drawings, and creator of the original Flat Brutus illustration! It was a heartwarming reunion for everyone involved:

Finally, I took Flat Brutus for a brisk walk up to the Hollywood sign.

I think he really enjoyed basking in the lime-light, and told me he had hopes of getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame one day. Being the good dad that I am, I told him that if he tried hard enough, he just might achieve that goal. Then I stuffed him back in his envelope and sent him on his way.

Want to get involved in the Flat Brutus Project? You can! It's fun, easy, and raises crucial funding for the French Bulldog Rescue Network.

KARISSA AND SAM//FINE ART DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

I recently was commissioned to photograph two very talented personalities of the Hollywood stage: Karissa Shannon (former Playboy bunny, favorite of Hugh Hefner, and star of 'Girls Next Door'- the reality show about the Playboy Mansion), and her boyfriend Sam Jones III (star of 'Smallville' and 'Blue Mountain State'). It was a very very hot day in the Hollywood hills, but we managed to keep the energy fun, relaxed, and intimate. My assistant and I took advantage of Sam's wonderful back yard, and we even loaded some *gasp* color film into the Hassie!! Karissa and Sam live with their 3 dogs: Jones (baby Yorkie), Johnny (gorgeous Belgian Malinois), and Ambrosious (scruffy/silly Shitzu-mix). They had just picked up Jones the morning of our session, but he was already adjusting well to his new life in Hollywood. It was a very fun challenge to go between Jones' exhausted puppy energy, to Ambrosious' ridiculous antics and lounging, to Johnny's intensity and strength. Keeping the energy calm, the people cool, and the dogs relaxed kept us all on our toes, but I couldn't be happier with the images from our session. Below are some of my favorites:

BUDDHABARK'S WONDERPARK//FINE ART DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

This weekend I was a featured guest at BuddhaBark's second amazing celebrity/canine event in Hollywood. It was sunny, it was full of amazing talented faces (and dogs), and I had so much fun talking to everyone about my work. People told me stories of their aging dogs, of their devotion to their animal companions, of their families and producers and famous friends who would "die to have photographs like these." I met dog lovers, cat lovers, horse lovers, and one woman with a few monkeys, an iguana, and a pack of seven dogs. Wow. The doggie fashion show and agility demonstrations were incredible, and it was an all-around wonderful event to be part of. Below are some fun shots (taken by my supertastic assistant, DC) of the weekend:

I love meeting other photographers. This guy and I talked shop about the beauty of film, his years as a professional photographer, shooting in old coal mines with transparency film, and, of course, his love for his canines.

WELCOME TO HOLLYWOOD//FINE ART DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

Well, we've arrived. Again. It's my third trip to Los Angeles this year, and so far things are going swimmingly. In preparation for the long, busy week ahead, my assistant and I took a trip up to the Hollywood sign. I've always wanted to hike up there, touch the sign, photograph the sign, get close to that mysterious, historic icon. Up close and personal it's just like any other sign. Kind of big, kind of dirty, kind of hard to photograph. But, it was a great way to get the creative juices flowing.

Tomorrow we get all cleaned up and head to BuddhaBark's Wonderpark, in celebration of the MTV Movie Awards. It's going to be an amazing weekend of meeting some big names in Hollywood, introducing them to my photography, and just getting a chance to chat a bit, one on one. I've got some great marketing materials, great big prints, and a great team behind me for this event, and I can't wait to knock the socks off of LA.

And who's that funny little fellow riding shotgun in my car? He's flat, he's cute..... must be Flat Brutus! Much more on Flat Brutus coming up, but if you're curious - check out his website.

BUDDHA BARK GOLDEN GLOBES CELEBRATION

So, I just had my very first 'jet setter' experience. One day, I was busy rustling up attention via the online world, and the next day I was whisked away to West Hollywood to photograph the Buddha Bark Celebrity ad Canine Golden Globes event. How amazing! My very first invitation to mingle with celebrities, not to mention help support one of the most well known animal rescue foundations in the country, Best Friends. Buddha Bark is the newest philanthropic engine of the animal world. Powered by Hollywood flair, celebrity support, and many kind hearts, Buddha Bark is gearing up to make a strong impact in the coming year. My job during this whirl-wind weekend was to make sure I recognized every famous face on the red carpet, didn't miss a beat during the doggie fashion show, and captured the spirit and excitement of  Madison Svensson's brand new organization (she's the brain child behind Buddha Bark). But, you know what they say- never leave home without your Hasselblad. Or, is it only me that says that.... Anyway, I couldn't help but take some beautiful black and white portraits, while frantically trying to put names to famous faces. To name-drop a few: Hal Sparks (Queer As Folk), James Avery (Fresh Prince of Bel Air), Tami Erin (Pippy Longstocking), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), and Jason Biggs (American Pie). All the celebrities that showed up were true dog lovers, and many owned multiple rescue dogs. How cool is that!?

Here are some fun images from the weekend's event. Enjoy!
