Long Island Puppies

Oh man. What a hilariously fun New York dog photography session! It was a hot, muggy Summer day in Long Island, and I had two floppy, happy Golden Retriever puppies on my hands, and one very distinguished senior Golden. We played in the big, beautiful yard, rolled around in the mud (well, I didn't do that part), almost fell in pool (yes, we ALL did that), and finally came inside and cooled off on the stone mud room floor.

Bo the Boxer at Ocean Beach, San Francisco

After photographing dogs in San Francisco for nearly 10 years, Bo the Boxer puppy was the first dog who ever really wanted to eat my camera strap during our fine art dog photography session at Ocean Beach. By the time we were done, I think everyone was completely covered in sand and dog slobber — which for me — means a productive day at the office.

NBC's 1st Look Episode with Cooper and Ashley Roberts

A few months ago NBC asked me to shoot an episode of 1st Look with Ashley Roberts (this season's host) and her awesome dog Cooper. I was already in Los Angeles for dog photography clients at the time, so I booked a day at my good friend's Downtown studio (at the Factory Arts Building, where my old Los Angeles dog photography studio used to be) and prepared myself for a fun and challenging day on set.

How'd You Get That Shot!?

There are some dog photographs in my portfolio that people always stop at and ask me "How'd you get that shot!?" So, I've decided to start a new series on the blog talking about those images, and answering that very question. I'm starting with an image that I show frequently at exhibits and events, and one that I love to talk about.

A Chihuahua in Woodstock New York

"Although I'd known about Jesse's work for years and always had the best intentions to contact him about photographing my dog, it wasn't until the latter portion of her life until I took the plunge. From the moment he arrived at our house I knew I'd made the right decision.”

Another Great Sunday at SOWA Arts Market

I spent another wonderful (and warm, yet breezy) Sunday at the SOWA Arts Market on Sunday August 21 in Boston's South End. The market is located at 365 Albany St/450 Harrison Ave in a big shaded parking lot, and happens at the same time as an amazing Vintage Market (inside the large brick building), a farmer's market and Open Studios for the many, many talented artists inside the 450 Harrison building.

Grappling With Our Biggest Fears: Saying Farewell

If you were to ask me right now what five things I am most afraid of, I guarantee you that watching my dog (Pancake) pass away would be high up on the list. It’s a fear that all of us dog owners are very familiar with, some more than others. It’s an inevitability that comes with the territory- loving a dog means signing yourself up for losing that very same dog.
