Dogs in the Workplace: Pinterest
Today's "Dogs in the Workplace" interview features the internet powerhouse that is Pinterest. Not only is Pinterest an amazing place to sort through creative visual ideas, find inspiration for projects ranging from design, fashion, food and photography, it's also a great place for dogs. And for that reason, I stopped by the Pinterest headquarters in San Francisco to chat with some of the resident Pinterest staff dogs and their humans. Name: Annie Dog: Bella (black Lab/Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix) Company Position: Pinterest Marketing Manager
What does your dog contribute to your company: She keeps the floors clean and free of food scraps… What are the benefits of having a 'mascot' at work: Dogs remind you to always be happy! And when you have happy people, they're more productive. Does your dog have any daily tasks they perform during the work day: Nap strategy, water quality assurance, tennis ball inventory analysis, and lots of dog-human collaboration.
Name: Cat Dog: Rocky (Golden Retriever) Company Position: Pinterest Product Manager
What does your dog contribute to your company: Smiles and laughter. Rocky tends to bring a lot of smiles to people's faces whenever they see him. He also does a lot of silly things that make people chuckle, like rolling on his back for belly rubs and falling asleep spread-eagle. What are the benefits of having a 'mascot' at work: Makes the workplace more fun. Does your dog have any daily tasks they perform during the work day: He used to greet people in the lunch line back in our old building. Now, he helps give people a "puppy break" when he visits.
Name: Steve Dog: Lana (Kelpie) Company Position: Pinterest Software Engineer
What does your dog contribute to your company: Lana spreads quite a bit of mirth throughout the day, creating many laughs and smiles. What are the benefits of having a 'mascot' at work: It makes it easier on my wife and I when the dogs can't be home. She gives a bunch of people something to look forward to as well. Does your dog have any daily tasks they perform during the work day: She writes a lot of unit tests for our A.P.I.
The benefits of having dogs in the work place are endless. Dogs help maintain a calm and happy work atmosphere, and in turn allow for a more productive environment as well. Cheers to Pinterest for allowing all creative tech savvy types (canine and human alike) to flourish at their San Francisco head quarters. Thanks for a great interview!
