Lucky the Welsh Corgi: Black and White Pet Photography by Jesse Freidin
Every year I help support animal rescue foundations and community organizations across the country that I believe in and want to see flourish. Sometimes that is through a donation of my photography, sometimes a limited edition signed photograph, a live or silent auction package, etc. Lucky and her parents were the 'lucky' winners from one of my favorite San Francisco animal fundraiser auctions- Petchitecture. Put on by PAWS, this animal rescue gala draws some of San Francisco's finest animal advocates and society names. I've been donating black and white pet photography packages to PAWS for the past four years.
We had the perfect day to photograph - overcast skies, slight threat of rain, sun behind the clouds. And with amazing views from Diamond Heights down across San Francisco, I knew our Fine Art Dog Photography Session would be spectacular.
Creating family portraits for my clients is a very intimate and powerful thing to do. Typically, each couple has a designated 'photographer' for all those casual moments of life. A couple can have literally hundreds of photographs on their computer or phone of their beloved dog and one parent. But when I ask if they have any beautiful images of the whole family- they realize that's what they've been missing all along. Turning the lens on the family unit as a whole, and creating photographic prints that will be produced and installed perfectly is a completely different experience than hundreds of snapshots on a phone. Which is why images like these are so powerful.
