Creativity and dog training go hand in hand, in my eyes. People don't always see the dance of problem solving, physical movement, cue reading, discipline, and intensity that are required when working with dogs. There is a constant give and take of focus and energy between a handler/trainer and their canine student, and I've always been fascinated by that relationship.
I've also always been fascinated by circuses.
Which is why I'm very excited about my new collaboration with Friends of the Family Dog Training's circus class. As the official photographer of this amazing new community, I'm constantly in the middle of creative moments. And for a dog-loving artist, I couldn't be more thrilled.
Francis and Norma Metcalf of Friends of the Family Dog Training have created a space in Oakland, CA where dogs and their owners can learn side by side, push themselves to try new things, and break outside the box of basic companion obedience. Within the walls of St Roch's is a magical, beautiful world where everyone is encouraged to learn, be creative, and have treats. No wonder the buzz is picking up.
