FASTFORWARDING TO THE END//BAY AREA'S BEST DOG PHOTOGRAPHER JESSE FREIDIN

As an artist, I keep a lot of things secret. Kind of a like a famous chef who always leaves out a few ingredients when sharing his recipes. You just can't give it all away- you've got to keep some mystery, some tension, a veil of intrigue between your perfect recipe for success and the information you throw out into the world. And though I'll never truly reveal what ratio I mix my developer at, how long I process my film for and at what agitation speed, how exactly I meter my subjects, and what goes on in my brain during a session (it's complicated, trust me)- I do want to share the pure joy and happiness my clients and I feel at the end of our collaboration. After weeks of photographing and printing and framing and shining glass, when I finally walk up the steps of my client's house to deliver their work there is a giddy excitement felt in everyone's chests. Sometimes it's hard letting go of the pieces. Sometimes clients get a little misty-eyed when I begin unwrapping their framed prints. Sometimes we're all just a little too excited we don't really know what to say for a few seconds. But every single time I finish a project there is this wonderful brightness and emotion we all feel. And it's just too good to keep to ourselves.

So I decided to share it. For now I'll just be posting stories on my blog, but hope to develop a whole section on my website for 'follow up stories.' Well, there's got to be a better name for it than that. Suggestions are welcome. First up is one of my favorite families of 2010: Geemo, Jay, and Steven.

Geemo's Story

How do your photographs make you feel?

Every time I look at them I get a smile on my face. I'm so lucky to have found an artist who can do such a unique job.

How did you, as curator of your collection, choose where to display your prints?

They are in places that can be seen from all corners of our living room.

What pushed you to work with our studio? Were you considering other photographers before you came to us?

Jesse you came highly  recommended by Geemo's groomer. You were the only photographer we looked at!

Did you feel there was anything missing from our session, or our collaboration?

Nope

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you Jesse, I cant wait to get another dog to have this experience again!

Thank you Geemo, Jay and Steven for bringing us all into your world. Your collection looks so beautiful in your home, and I know you'll enjoy it for years and years to come.
